Westport Sea2Summit 2021 Cancelled
It is with great regret that we are cancelling Westport Sea2Summit for the second year in a row. We know this is incredibly disappointing news for all involved but we have a duty of care to everyone involved in our event.
Given the scale and magnitude of the occasion and the uncertainty in these times we want to provide a safe and sustainable event to our competitors.
We are also cognisant of the great work being carried out by the Croagh Patrick stakeholder's group and the compromise and cooperation shown by all involved. This included new initiatives in relation to Reek Sunday which was expanded throughout the month of July this year rather than the annual pilgrimage taking place on Reek Sunday. We believe that the restoration works are at a critical stage and that breathing space is required for the conservation of the mountain.
We look forward to working with the stakeholder’s group in organising Sea2Summit in 2022 and recognise the great work that has been achieved to date. We know this is incredibly disappointing news and we want to thank you for your continued support andlook forward to seeing you all in November 2022.
Westport Sea2Summit Team
We are working with the Croagh Patrick Stakeholders Group to protect the heritage of the mountain. We are reducing the number of our competitors taking part in the Supreme Event in order to reduce the traffic on the Cone where the main erosion is occurring.
Westport Sea 2 Summit was to take place on Saturday 6th November. The adventure race celebrated 10 years two years ago and is a unique event based in the adventure capital of Ireland, Westport. The race incorporates all the thrills that Westport has to offer; Croagh Patrick, Clew Bay, the Sheaffry Mountains and the new Greenway.
Westport Sea2Summit is organised and run by the Westport Plaza & Castlecourt Hotel Resort under the guidance of Race Director, Paul O ‘Brien of Boot Camp West.
There will be two separate races with three categories in both, which will include a mix of road running, cycling, and a mountain hike.
The Sea2Summit Spirit caters for the participant that wants a challenge but has not taken part in adventure racing before. Duration time for the fastest will be 2.5 – 3hrs.
The Sea2Summit Supreme is for the participant who wants an extra challenge. The hike up and down the front face of Croagh Patrick (Murrisk) will hurt the legs and the back breaking ramps at the Maum climb will definitely test your bike and quad muscles.
Duration time for the elite athletes will be around 3.5hrs.
In these two races, there are 3 categories to choose from:
